looking for a easy to use media player

I used WinAmp for years and was going to get it for this new PC. However, WinAmp has gotten clunkier,(I know its an over exaggeration but WinAmp seems to have 500 different menus to search through), and harder to use over the years. Seems like there are several different media players out there now. I'm looking for something simple yet reliable that can play just about any music or video file. Any one have a favorite they would like to suggest?

Foobar is often recommended though I'm not sure if it counts as simple

Zoom Player is decent, but it doesn't save playlists in .m3u format, only a proprietary .zpl format which is useless to me. I have yet to find any media player that does just a few simple things that I require.

I'm still debating dumping windows 7 and going to Vista, just so I can use Media Player 11 instead of the garbage that is 12.

Foobar has to be the recommendation here. You can just use the setup wizard for an easy UI config and you're good to go.

This doesn't work? No way on Earth I'd change my OS just for a media player... Unless that's all the computers function was I guess.

If you want to play movies as well as music I'd think about mediaplayerclasic HC? or VLCplayer? or Mplayer(hq)?
all of them run perfectly on my machine:), and are easy to use. oh and they are free to use.

Hi. I know what you mean about Winamp - but I still I use it for audio - and VLC for video. I try not to install any extras - but I play mainly mp3s and flac. I use EAC for ripping, not Winamp.

All play well on Win 8

Foobar2000 is fairly simple, but it won't play video.

Media Player Classic Home Cinema when paired with a codec pack (I use K-Lite, which includes it in the more complete packs) can play just about anything. It's a bit more complex but you usually don't have to mess with the configuration.

I don't like VLC because it does something to sound output that makes it sound a lot different than the other players I've tried.

IIRC, that only works for 32-bit windows.

As far as function, well... Office will work the same on Vista, games will run the same on Vista, Internet will work the same on Vista, but I'll at least have a non-garbage version of Media Player. Not really a downgrade in my eyes. Most of the computers in my house are running Vista and I honestly like it better anyway. I just hate going through the OS install hassle yet again.

Real player.. The free version doesnt come with all the features but the audio quality is great. The interface is beautiful, wish VLC came with a better interface.
