Read up on Laserfiche, you mean?

Yes. Only by understanding their architecture and what they do, then you can start look for where the bottleneck may be in the supporting stuff (VM hardware, OS, database, etc.). Armed with that understanding and confirming with Resource Manager/Perfmon, you will be able to pinpoint the issue and hopefully recommend solutions. Right now what I can see is that you are in the hearsay and "I don't know what I am doing, let's throw enough **** to the wall and see what sticks" stage.

Just read your update. If you really do not want to do the stuff, then you need to politely say no, otherwise you will end up supporting it for your entire career at the company. If that is not possible, then you need to set expectations and get proper help. Are the guys you are working with from the software vendor directly or one of those "resellers"? The vendor seems to use a reseller model. So it may be your reseller not knowing what they are talking about.

BTW, which version, 7, 8, or 9?
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.
