I agre with that statement. If you want more overtaking watch the A1 Grand Prix.

It is already limited a ton. Modern cars aren't running around with slick tires, active suspension, etc. There's more than one route to a blistering pace in a (reasonably) technologically advanced car, just like there's already plenty of technology that's not allowed.
diamond2a wrote:Saying F1 doesn't have enough passing is like saying soccer doesn't have enough scoring.
In soccer teams tend to at least make attempts at scoring. Oftentimes F1 barely even gets that. The polesitter has won all but one race this year, and that one was won by the 2nd qualifier. Races are decided at the first turn by the admission of the drivers. Not a lot of drama there. Not a lot of racing there. Just drivers parading rapidly around a "race" track and trying to "overtake" in the pits. Alonso ran the entire race at similar pace to Hamilton this week, and how many credible attempts did he make to pass? A couple? May as well just watch qualifying. No less racing, just as much pace, and more impact on the final outcome.
diamond2a wrote: If you don't like the way soccer is set up go watch basketball, if you don't like F1, watch NASCAR.
Why on earth would I do thatt?

I guess I just prefer my racing to have racing if possible...

and speaking of A1GP, the one (sprint) race from that series that I watched had exactly zero successful passes (other than people going off-track and being passed by people who didn't) for the entire race! I don't think anyone even got close to pulling anything off other than a dude who went in to a corner way too hot and wrecked himself and the guy he way trying to pass.

Personally I'm more worried about the proposed legislation for 10000PRM V6 turbo-diesels in 2011, and regenerative braking and other such madness

Next year's removal of traction control OTOH should make things more interesting.

I don't think it was diesels. It was 10krpm limited but I think they will have to run on biofuel. Running a diesel at 10k rpm doesn't sound very realistic.

See, now that's the sort of move that has potential to improve the racing. Curious how well they can enforce it with so much electronics between throttle and road. Wasn't enforcement-difficulty part of why they brought TC back in the first place?

IIRC, F1 is going (if not already there) to a spec electronics box controlled by the FIA and handed out anew at each race. That would make anti-TC enforcement easy.

The real problem with F1 rules changes is the never-published nature of the Concorde Agreement (current ground rules between FOCA and Bernie Ecclestone) and Bernie's never-ending greed and financial obfuscation. Combined, they make it near-impossible for non-insiders to have a good idea of what's actually going on.

Yes, there will be a standard-issue ECU in the next major tech regulations change. I forgot whether it is next year or 2009, but IIRC it is when the next Concorde Agreement takes effect.

Here are the highlights that I think is making the sport going in the right direction:
- standard ECU
- re-introduction of slick tires
- customer chassis purchase (not just engine anymore), see how the Super Aguri has been outshining the factory Honda team is one of the highlights of this season
- CDG wing configuration: this one is weird, it may get delayed due to more necessary research, if they can pull this one off then following cars will not be as bad as now, where the "bad air" effect makes overtaking very difficult

Well I have done my transfer and i'm pretty happy with it. Looking forward to seeing how it pans out through the next race. I have a feeling the next transfer window will be trying to bring toyota or red bull back into play...

Woo, top score. Even if that happened for the races remaining i would still be a few points shy of you Fox. Too little too late for me I fear

With me missing a trading window I won't get maximum points even after the next trading window. I'll quote what Kimi has said, "there's still half a season left" (or something to that effect).

Fat lot of good he did me this week. On the up side, I'm +27 points with my transfers.

We all know things are bad at McLaren right now, but it's gotta be really bad if their site's down!

http://www.mclaren.com

Hopefully three weeks will be enough for the situation to simmer down. It is possible, albeit difficult, to have two great drivers on the same team.

Sikthskies I'm not letting you pass. As long as Ferrari keeps up and Hamilton finishing in front of Alonso I should be able to keep you at bay. :D

Stupid tyre, either Ferrari pays someone off or one of Alonso's boys had his hands on a bad tire. /conspiracy

Haha if I win it'll be down to the next round of transfers. If I keep winning and beating you with the margins I have been then you will win. Why oh why did I have anything to do with Honda at the start of the year.

Whatever happens with Ferrari and Kimi and Mclaren and Hamilton would effect us both the same would it not?

I'm in no position to win but my last set of transfers has certainly pushed me up the ladder.

Astounding performance by Alonso. Encouraging to hear that Hamilton decided to go for points after he had flat spotted his tyres before the 2nd pit.

These next transfers are going to be interesting Fox. Make sure you use yours this time :)

Its official, McLaren are cheaters...

McLaren fined, stripped of constructors’ points
F1 : McLaren stripped of constructors' points

The drivers do not loose and points and the other teams will not gain any.

It will interesting to see how this affects the pool we are in, since McLaren run it...

I doubt it will change, since a large part of it is still down to the drivers getting good results. It's probably the best to ignore that political stuff anyways.

Now if I need to dump McLaren and move to BMW, may be I have room to get better drivers... Hmm....

Yep, I gambled earlier this week and made a trade to get McLaren as well, I forgot my trades last time, so I thought I would get it done early this time...

I'm done as well. There is really not much else I can do except to bet on Alonso. To me it is foolish to not get him based on my team makeup.
