I used to be an avid golfer, but recently started to golf a bit more. My biggest struggle since starting again is hitting long-to-mid irons. I'm hitting woods fairly consistently, even off the fairway with a 3 or 5, so my swing mechanics can't be that bad; I can usually hit my driver 220+ with a slight fade. However with irons, especially 3 through 6, I rarely seem to be getting a clean shot, like I can't hit the sweet spot. I'm starting to wonder if the cheap set of clubs I bought when first getting back into the sport just has terrible irons; while I think blaming the clubs is a classic cop-out, is it possible the clubs are just that bad? The clubs are an assembled-in-canada brand called "World Tour", they seem to be reasonably well constructed, the irons are an oversized, cavity-back style. The funny thing is I have various old clubs hanging around, and it seems that the older style irons I have, even the muscle-back type, are easier for me to hit. Is there any more experienced golfers here that might be able to suggest something for me to try to pinpoint what I'm doing wrong?
