Just collapsed at the Nationals park and was dead about 50 minutes later. He had a voice and a way with words alot like Vin Sculley and Jack Buck - a totally memorable announcer. Philly will be for the worse without him.

Everybody has to go sometime, I guess, and if you're really lucky you get to spend your life doing something you love right up until the end. His friends and family -- and the listening audience for whom his voice is like a friend -- can take some comfort in that.

I am going to miss "Home Run Ryan Howard!"

Well there are just certain people - Vin Sculley, Jack Buck, Kalas...they're just not supposed to die. They're supposed to go on forever. True, this is not as tragic as Nick Adenhart, but Kalas was a friend to millions upon millions.

And, tangentially, Sculley's way with words about Adenhart were terribly appropriate. Life doesn't make sense; don't even try to figure it out.

For those outside of Philly he was also the voice of NFL films.
