He was sprinting at 23MPHs. For those who prefer the metric system, he was going 37.5 KPH. That is incredibly fast for a human.

Who knows what his top speed was.

Hawkwing74 wrote:Wow he is amazing. What's also interesting to me is that Tyson Gay ran a 9.71 in the same race which would have barely been the WR had not Bolt run like he did.
Edit. Wikipedia misled me. Bolt ran 9.69 at the Olympics so Gay set a personal best, not the 2nd best time ran.
Krogoth wrote:Do you have a source for that opinion? Because according to at least one biomechanics/physiology professor Bolt is still not close to the absolute human limit. (This guy thinks a flat 9 seconds is possible, which seems hard to believe, but I didn't think what Bolt did this weekend was possible either). Bolt himself thinks he can do 9.4; I wouldn't be surprised if he says that because he's already run that fast in practice. And research done after his victory in Beijing last year (when he famously started celebrating rather than finishing the race full tilt) agrees. It couldn't be more than 27-30 MPH. I wonder if he has more fast-twitch muscles in his legs than ordinary humans (kind of like how Lance Armstrong has the lungs and heart of a much larger person).I wonder if we will start to see more tall sprinters like Bolt in the future.

Of course he might have and that got edited out of the audio interview also.UberGerbil wrote:I disagree with the sentence about stride length in the npr article. Yeah, just like it's impossible for a human being to run a 4:00 mile.
I have no idea, myself, but it sure sounds the same.

Possibly the only sports title greater than "Fastest Man in the World", is "Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World". That's debateable though, I guess.
