The ESPN / USA Today coaches' poll is useless. The coaches don't watch the games. How can they evaluate how good those other teams are? Some flunky fills out the ballot. Frequently, the flunky manipulates the votes to favor a certain conference or downgrade a rival school.

I agree. Just wanted to include it for completeness sake. Are you a fan of any certain team JAE?

I love how, even after going 3-9 last year, Michigan can still get one vote

Well, these votes are supposed to be based on how the teams rank right now. Not last year. But then again that was probably some lowly assistant at Detroit college or something wanting Michigan in the news.

Disclaimer: I go to Ohio State

I don't understand why with all this talk from just about everyone that Penn State will win the Big Ten (Most likely true!) that everyone placed OSU in front of PSU in the rankings. It just doesn't make sense. The ranks should have been reversed, with us coming in at #9 or 8 and PSU coming in at #6.

That would be the same Ohio State team that had to have Navy botch a 2-point conversion at the end of the game to survive this week?

This is what I'm saying. PSU was the better team last year, and granted they lost some talent on the defensive side of the ball, but still... everyone loses people every year. How do you rank a team that chokes in bowl games every year (THEE Ohio State) in the top 10 consistently, and the team that beat them last year and is the consensus choice to win the Big 10 this year too, but Ohio State is ranked higher. The BCS is stupid.

So again, Ohio State squeeks out a win against freaking NAVY by 3 points, and PSU beats Akron by 11ty million, and they both move up in the rankings?

We dropped from 6 to 8. We should have dropped out of the top 10. Also, Navy isn't as bad as everyone seems to think. That triple option is wild. They haven't been out of the top 3 rushing teams since 2001. I don't think they've missed a bowl game in about the same time frame. I think they just don't get respect because they're an academy.

Chokes in bowl games every year? Other than two lackluster performances in the BCS championship games 2 of the last 3 years, the facts just don't support your statement. Last year's Fiesta Bowl went down to the wire and 4 year winning streak leading up to the BCS championship appearances. Again, let's not let pesky facts get in the way.

I vote teams that give themselves super soft schedules should fall in ranks. I can't stand college football. When you're the number one team in the nation and you play two schools no one knows even exists you don't deserve to be on the field.

The thing is, someone has to play them. If they play someone like a Florida or Texas they get national recognition. It's a good deal for everyone for those teams to play the big guys. I do agree that deliberately scheduling a soft non-con sucks, but it's always going to happen. ROCK CHALK

Down goes Dame!. Overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, overrated, well you get the point.

The announcers were polishing ND's knob the whole game, including Charlie of course. The mere fact that they had Matt Millen in the booth calling a Michigan game just doubled the nausea.

They were on the road at one of the biggest home fields in college and came within 11 seconds of winning. How does that make them overrated?

Well that was a frustrating loss. Too many opportunities to put the game away were missed while USC wasn't clicking on offense. For all the talk about USC's young QB, Pryor still looked like he has a lot of room to grow as a QB. At least it was a good game and wasn't a blowout. Then again, the blowouts are easier to get over, these last minute losses like tonight and the Fiesta Bowl against Texas last January hurt.

[pui]*sigh*. Another last-few-minutes-of-the-game loss for us. Jeez. Also, that freaking int on the third play was ridiculous. Why the hell did he throw that? Lamest duck pass I've ever seen.

I just hope Pryor shapes up; he's still playing like he's a freshmen with all the stupid mistakes he has made these past two games.[/pui]

Yup. Pryor had a few good plays.. but he has a lot of growing up to do in the decision-making area.
The coaching calls on the last drive before the half surely did not help either. That 3 points was costly and there was no reason for it.

Unfortunately, I expect USC to continue to improve greatly this year as there QB grows up.. and don't really expect the same from Ohio St.

looking forward to Nebraska v Virginia Tech next week.
Hopefully it's a mistake-free game on the Nebraska side. :)

It's hard to tell really how good either team is at this point...
I'm sure V Tech will be favored by a good few points but I think Nebraska has a chance

I dunno, Clausen looked GOOD. The offense was walking up and down the field all day. The Irish D let them down big time playing that prevent D. Its been said 1000 times, the only thing prevent D does is prevent you from holding the lead.

As for Ohio State, choking in a big game? Who'da thought? </psualum>
