A bit of the fan of the plane.. mostly comes from 3 sources.. 1st is that the original Cobra Rattler (from G.I. Joe) was loosely based on the A-10, 2nd was because of the Wing Commander movie (they based the scimitars on the A-10), and lastly because of a discussion I was having with a friend about Battletech... We were discussing Aerospace fighters strafing, and materials for the cockpits.. He mentioned that the A-10 had some sort of armoring for the cockpit that would stop large caliber bullets... and the windshield was a vulnerability, ricochets inside the cockpit would turn pilots into jelly.. ) so I don't remember the details.. he was explaining to me the physics of the problem, and how, if inverted, it would cause the bullets to not ricochet inside the cockpit (because of the angle of a dive, the canopy was exposed to hostile fire either way)..
