The Big Unit retires

Maybe a few years too late, but he was still a great pitcher in his day. He also stayed away from any kind of major problems away from the diamond.

Sad to see him go, but he did have an awesome career. Look forward to his induction!

He needed to get to 300 wins! It's going to be weird not having him on a team. He's been a staple of baseball my entire baseball watching life!

Pigeons everywhere are breathing easier.

Seriously, El Unito Grande did some terrific work in his last two years with the Giants, not the least of which was mentoring Tim Lincecum on what it takes to be a power pitcher in the bigs. Seven freaking Cy Youngs between them, god would I have loved to sit within earshot for half an hour.

Man all the big-names I grew up hearing about are retiring, it kind of bums me a bit. As a kid I loved the Mariners; particularly Griffey and Johnson. But kudos to the Big Unit, he had one hell of a career.

What cap does he wear when he goes into the Hall?
Personally, I'd like to see no cap, so that he can be rocking the mullet in bronze for all eternity.

Don't remember much of his Mariner days, which is a shame since I grew up in the Northwest, but I do remember the 2001 WS and his perfect game. Not always the greatest personality but one helluva pitcher for sure.

Doesn't the Hall pick that now, thank you Dave Winfield? It almost has to be Diamondbacks, doesn't it?

I don't think so. I heard on TSN that Andre Dawson gets to choose what hat he wants forhis recent induction.

That's not the way TSN reported it. They said that he will be in talks with the hall, but never once did they say the decision was up to them.

I think it should be up to the player in the first place.

It used to be, because there was a big deal in Chicago about which hat Carlton Fisk would pick. But IIRC Dave Winfield put his hat wearing up to the highest bidder and the Hall said never again
