Oy, I am feeling old as all the 'stars' I grew up with are making the news in headlines not related to sports or entertainment. :(

I remember Gary Carter from when I was a kid. I remember him as a New York Met, and from the 1985 Catch the Rising Star commercial the Mets had. RIP.

I saw him once at Olympic Stadium in Montreal in the bad old days of the Expos. 5000 people in Olympic Stadium essentially disappear. The worst part, though, was the ride home. It was the night Elvis died and this 13YO (along with everyone else in the van) had no choice but to listen to Elvis tunes all the way home.

He was one of my heroes growing up. One of my best memories is Gary Carter day.. I was in the absolute top row of the Big O.. packed to capacity, I thought the stomping and cheering would bring the place down.

I am very sad today.

Boy I hated him as a player because he was so good and he was playing with the Mets when I came of age as a baseball fan. But he was a fine man, and it's sad to see. RIP Gary.

this is a sad sad day, not only for Mets fans but for all of baseball. Mr. Carter exemplified the very best in professional sports. 57 is far too young an age for someone so vibrant and full of good cheer to be snatched from his family's midst. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.

Sigh. Back when I was a young kid... I used to collect baseball cards. And this was one of them:

1975 Topps rookie card for Gary Carter. I wonder how much value this card will increase now that a baseball legend is gone...
