Since the Diamondbacks and Dodgers are trickling into training camp, it's time to start up this behemoth for another year. All who were in last year should be getting an invite from Yahoo. Draft is Friday, March 21 (there's those D-Backs/Dodgers games in Aussie land 3/22 and 3/23) at 10:00PM EDT/7:00PM PDT.

Play ball!!

And, to the sorrow of this Yankees fan, Jeter is hanging up the spikes at the end of 2014. They're all now gone.

Well, you know, you have to give it up at some point. Would love for him to play a healthy 2014 and go out...not on top, exactly, but high up. One of the consistently great offensive shortstops, and even though his defense wasn't the best I have to think he's a first ballot HoF inductee.

I get what you say and agree WRT to batting vs. field skills.

I've been a Yankees fan since I first became aware of baseball. My late mother, who knew nothing of baseball, pointed me in that direction in respect for her father who was a diehard fan. Once I was of age to have adult-level talks with Mom she told me that one of her father's greatest wishes was to regularly take his grandchildren to games in Yankee Stadium. He died when I was 3 (1967) and before my sister was born, so there went that. That's the source of my fandom. Never really chosen, just inherited.

That said, I'm taking this hard and I can't even explain to myself why it is so. Most likely it's because I'm steeling myself for another long term in the wilderness while the farm system is rebuilt (and Jeets was a product of the farm system) and Steinbrenner Jr. learns that big-checkbook baseball is not a long-term solution just as his dad finally learned same.

I hope that the weather In Cooperstown in July 2020 is warm (not hot) & sunny. It's only a few hours drive from here.

I'm going this year. Big Hurt and Maddux? Yes please.

Hope we end up with an even number of teams. We're at 7 right now, so it'd be a bummer for someone to be on a bye every week. None of my friends IRL are into fantasy sports, so I don't have anyone to bring in. :(

Oh, damn, I'm going to miss the draft. Better set up my auto picks well. Taking my wife to see Jim Gaffigan at 7:30 that night

I'll probably miss it as well as my extra special 50th b-day present is scheduled for that morning.

Yahoo tells me that the draft is Friday March 21 9:00pm, but it is refusing to tell me what time zone that is. Ned, can you tell?

Shows at 10:00 PM for me so Yahoo must be automagically changing it for time zone. Hopefully by 10PM the sedatives will have worn off and I'll be able to take part. If I'm still loopy, I'll probably just let it audo-draft. I get my true 50th birthday present earlier in the day.

That's kind of a neat feature, although I don't remember ever telling Yahoo where I lived.

Cone on, imagine the hilarity that would ensue! "I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT BONDS IS STILL AVAILABLE!"

After my fun time in the hospital yesterday, I was asleep by 7 PM.

Well that was entertaining. I was out at a piub in Victoria BC trying to participate in the draft using the mobile Android app which I had never used for a draft before, without any of my spreadsheets or research (I REALLY missed not having a second screen). Other than losing the connection for long enough to miss two picks (hey, where did those guys come from?) I was mostly able to participate but I really don't know what to think of the team I ended up with. Worse than the technological limitations and my incipiant inebriation was the fact I paid almost no attention to the off season this year so for all I know half my guys are on the DL to start the season.

Oh well, whatever. This means summer is on the way, right?

I imagine they're just going by the IP geo-coding, which will be right most of the time for most North American ISPs (at least when the margin for error is as big as a time zone)

Just my 50th birthday present, namely my 1st colonoscopy. The 100mg of Demerol they give you for "comfort" pretty much precludes anything else happening for the rest of the day. I was snoring by about 8PM yesterday.

Congrats on being an old person, Ned!

I missed because of the aforementioned evening out with the lady. It wasn't really something I can reschedule just for me.

Overall I'm happy with my autodrafted team. First time I've ever said that.

My starting pitching is OK and I think I have plenty of power. My batting average is atrocious

Finally found the settings page to change the atrocious black screen to a white screen. My Team > Edit Team Info (which only shows on the black skin). Once you're in the white skin, click on the "gearwheel" by your avatar. I really need to look at other providers for next year and for football this year and I'm open to any and all suggestions.

As soon as I pimp my starting pitching, both Darvish and Kershaw go on the DL

Speaking of pitching, here's one who thinks he's a catcher. Damn good play that was, and I prefer Uecker's commentary.

Whelp, I'm certainly taking a DL beating so far. Hopefully that means at the end of the season all my boys will be healthy and rarin to go

This whole injury thing is just getting silly now. 5 guys on my team out for several weeks each. Had to jettison Trumbo.

If not for the emergence of George Springer, I'd be completely F'd.
