Okay, i guess i will look else where, but no hacking fourms are not illegal and if your hacking inorder to patch it up it is not, secondly you can talk about hacking all you want, Freedom of speech man.

Point taken.

However, discussion of vulnerabilities is not illegal. It's just REALLY bad practice to do it in public.

I do agree that TR is the WRONG place for it, however.

THEN POST YOUR QUESTION!!! we have forums already that can handle your "oh I'm not a hacker" question, why don't you post them there? Because you know damn well that it would get locked.

Go to the Developer's Den or Networking forums, or the appropriate forum for the OS you're talking about, and post your question.

If you get locked, realize that your question was against the rules.

I'm 99% sure that you'll get locked, though.

"Hi, I got my hacking thread locked because it wasn't kosher. You know what youse guys ought to do? Make a whole forum for my non-kosher topic!"

You didn't.

Let me make this perfectly clear. In this thread:

viewtopic.php?t=33825

you clearly requested information that would be considered cracking by your school's network administrator. That thread was locked due to an egregious violation of Rule #1. Not content with that lockage you now want a forum dedicated to helping you and your fellow script-kiddies violate every AUP you're subject to.

To quote something a US Army general recently said:

Son, don't get stuck on stupid.

Deathright wrote:
How is it illegal to look for ways to get past os sercruity inoder to patch it.

Umm...

Unless you're the guy actually writing the patch, you need absolutely zero knowledge of how to break into a system in order to secure it. You're just installing a patch that has been written by someone else.

TR is not an appropriate forum to discuss methods of hacking into systems.

not to chime in randomly but there are plenty of cases where a hole was disclosed in some manner but not patch by the vendor for quiet a bit of time after the fact.

i still think we should have a science forum

LOL, I was reading this backwards and was wondering how the hell everyone got on the topic of someones thread being locked in a productive thread about the forums layout... WOW Deathrights, pretty darn stupid. I think that Captin Ned gave you the best possible suggestion when he quoted the general.

I have had numerous threads locked for many reasons. One was when I was requesting help from people to get me back onto a network that I accidently screwed up VIA wireless where I didnt have permission to be on the network... Turns out I didnt screw it up, it worked just fine and it was something I overlooked. But the point is I didnt stay on the stupid for very long and realized that its a waiste of my time to ask for help on retarded subjects that are most likely going to get me ban and arent really that useful in the first place.

Now I know your probably saying to yourself "Nooo  , me and my friends were supposed to pretend like I was CrashOverride and the school is "The Plauge" while we act like we are stopping the Da vinci virus!"

Im sure the thought of being a hacker is an intresting notion to you but if you are that desprate to leanr it, your going to see how hard it is to find anyone willing to teach you if you can even find someone who knows how to (for real).

Do yourself a favor and forget that instead of burning a bridge to a community that can help you learn more useful and legit things with computers.

Really i am not trying to do anywrong here, lol and i did drop the topic, however the system administrator of school is wanting us to try and break the secruity he has in place, we have had a real problem with hackers/viruses, lol it took down all but 2 of our servers and we couldn't bring them back for fear of infection, the school distric computers were put out of commision for two weaks, i was running around trying to fix stuff here, reload computers here, deal with stupid teachers who thought that if there computer started to slow down to keep running it, microsoft was of no help, they told us we were screwed, it turned out the virus was brought in by a icq client and so we are trying to lock down the computers on the network to prevent people from installing stuff without the permission of the IT department, the problem is some of the teachers no alittle bit about computer and go looking and read about hacking themselves. So the system administrator of our told the cisco class to try and hack the system. So i am trying. The truth is i don't have a real interest in hacking but it is something to do and could at the very least teach me about network secruity. I seriouly meant no harm. I know you only have my word on this, however if i do want to become a hardcore hacker i would not really come here, second of all i already figured out one way around, but it was the back door they alrdy knew it was there so it didn't count so i am trying figure out other ways around it now. And yes if i do find ways around ido report them.

Wow i think this is my longest post.

Looking at your post, Deathright, I can say that it looks like your post just now is total and complete bull.

well it's pretty clear there wont be any hacking forums here, so if you want to discuss those intentions further i would suggest creating a new thread so that this one doesnt become sidetracked any further.

I think the Software section needs a forum linking to the Apple Sanctuary. It would be remiss to have all the other major operating systems represented there and not Mac OS X.

Yes, but it has qnough unique stuff as an OS to warrant some favoritism.
