I need a $1000 build or under!

Sat Dec 17, 2005 2:26 pm

I'm trying to find a good computer for my friend but he has a budget. I need it to be $1000 or under. He wants to be able to run alot of games at Max settings. He plays all the Source games and he plays F.E.A.R and CoD2. I did some researching and this is what I got.

NEC Black DVD/CD Burner

This came up to $940 so I was just wondering if anyone could build a better system that is around this price. This price doesn't have shipping and handling included it came up to $1000 with it included. Also he kind of wants to get SLI mobo but if its not possible then just dont bother with it.

Cut down on the bling bling in the case and get one with a better PSU. May save you more in the long run.

17" CRT?

Looks like there is not much else to cut, unless you can bring some old components over (like a HD, a monitor, or something).

You might want to look at getting an SLI capable motherboard. That way, when your friend has a few extra bucks he can get another graphics card and pair them up.

Like this one is an extra $30 bucks, which can be offset by getting a smaller hard drive like this one. You really don't need aynthing more than a 100GB right now unless your buddy is planning on making this a media server. Right now I have a 65GB partition with Windows installed and a bunch of games and I'm still not using more than 15%. If he needs more space down the line, ha can add another larger hard drive for data usage, or get the same size and run them in RAID 0.

ever thought of the shipping and tax of each item? Tax will only occur if you live in california cos newegg is california. If you do live in cali, times the price of the product by 0.08 and boom theres ur tax

That's an 80gb drive?

Seagate is slow but reliable. If you're looking for something a bit faster, go for a WD like this:

Newegg's broken at the moment. If you're looking for a built-to-order system, consider Monarch.

I don't like AOC monitors at all. I used to work in a local shop and they were about all we kept in stock. We had a 17" that was OK but not that sharp and a 19" that was dark as hell. I never got in trouble for recommending that they buy a monitor elsewhere; the manager knew we could only sell what we had, and he didn't like the monitors either.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
