Ninja Edit: Just Pulled The Trigger

Wed Jan 25, 2006 8:53 am

Epox EP-8NPA7I

EVGA 6800GS

Sempron 64 2800

Subtotal: $340.50

Also will be ordering a firewire card and 512MB RAM (ram for someone else)

Total budget is $400, but I think I'll blow it by $20 or so.

This has been a long saga, I've been pestering the SBA for days now. I was seriously considering an X850XT that Newegg has for ~$220.

Ewww, socket 754. I guess you can't beat the price though 8)
Seems reasonable to me though.
Any chance of picking up a second 512 stick?

It's called overclocking. Keep it on the down-low though

There are upgrades, downgrades, and um, sidegrades. This has been a sidegrade most certainly, but with more prospects for the future: get to move to pcie and upgrade CPU if it seems worth it. The only real upgrade will be the 6800GS. I cry at the loss of the DFI board. And the XP-M for pete's sake.

I don't suspect I'll notice any difference between a Sempron 64 2800, which I will overclock, and the XP-M (@ 2.3)

Old system:
DFI NF2 Ultra Infinity
XP-M 2500
6800 128

New system:
Epox EP-8NPA7I
EVGA 6800GS
Sempron 64 2800

Old system sold for price of new parts plus I put it together for him, install all of his crap, and provide some degree of tech-support. He's happy, I'm happy.
