looking for gfx card upgrade

Mon Mar 13, 2006 6:56 am

case: x-qpack
mobo: gotta get a new one to replace my dead just after arrival giga-byte 6150 mobo
gfx: currently albatron 6600gt vivo
proc: x2 3800
ram 1GB mushkin value
power supply: silverstone st50ef (perfect 140mm!!)
budget: $450

being that the x-qpack hasnt got the best airflow, im needing a gfx card that can stay cool while contending with my psu's 120mm when it spins up (idle, itll be just fast enough to get a tach signal) while still not being a sucky gpu

i was hoping for the aiw x1900 as it has good speed, fits the budget (mwave is selling for $419) and has a tuner built in (and the x1900 optimizations and the better cooler over the aiw x1800xl; even the sticker on the cooler is better, lol)

my roommate suggests the x1800xt because its cooler exhausts out the back and draws from nearer the front (the x-qpack has only a 120mm near the cpu) and a seperate tuner

i also have yet to find any review with the temps on these cards:(
ASUS P7P55D-E, Core i7 860, EVGA GTX 570 SC, 4GiB DDR3 (OCZ I think), Razer Lycosa (letters rubbing off) and Lachesis, Benq G2400W, Steelseries Siberia G1 headphones (no speakers)

7600GT is your ticket. The X1900s and X1800s may be too hot in the X-QPack, but they shouldn't be at dangerous levels. They will have higher performance though, so it's a compromise.
