With a 3200+ why are you even trying to prepare yourself for SLI? Do you honestly think you will get your 2nd card within one year? Get a regular board and a smaller wattage PSU and save some cash, may be for a larger drive.

How much and what RAM btw?

TR forum-goers report problems with the NEC 3550 drive, get the LG or BenQ instead.

Well, regular 2x8 SLI boards are not that much expensive than boards with only 1x16. So the A8N-E SLI may be ok, but beware of that fan and you may just need to get a Zalman northbridge heatsink and do some surgery. The A8N5X is an ok board. Other brands like MSI and Epox should also be good. If you want to overclock though, then you may want to look at DFI. The Asus and Epox are decent overclockers too.

If you don't need that many PCI slots, I would even go for the 6100/6150 boards (example: A8N-VM), just for the passive cooling. :)

As for PSU, the FSP 400W model should be plenty. Although if you are going to stick with midrange cards (7600GT, and may be another midrange when you upgrade the video card next), the 350W model may work. If you like TT, you can just pick their lesser wattage models too.

I will seriously think about 2x1GB RAM, prices are very cheap now.

Seconded. It's only $140 for a decent set of 2x1GB, and prices are expected to rise by this fall as manufacturers switch production to DDR2.

Looks good, what's the total now?

As far as case is concerned, I don't have any suggestions. Heck I'm still looking for my own case. :P

Case

Sat Mar 25, 2006 2:03 am

I have another version of the Centurion, only cosmetically different. It is a good case. Nice finish, plenty of room, good airflow, and the price is reasonable. I like the looks of that version of the case as well. Very clean and simple styling.

My case only came with a single 120mm fan, so you might want to pick up another when you order.

I second the suggestion for a Fortron Source PSU. I am happy with mine.

How about a black DVD burner to go with that case rather than beige?

What you got listed looks great. My only suggestion would be to take care and make sure the PSU is efficient.

I'll second the Venice 3200+, have it in my rig @ 2.5, runs cool and fast, damn it beats Sandy 3700+(at stock)......

As for case, its good and clean for your components.

If you could stretch a little, then try the board below-

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813136152

It would make the most of your hardware. More mojo to this board.........

Am also looking to upgrade to 2X1GB from 2X512MB for my rig, 2GB is de facto for today's games.
Rest looks fine....not gonna repeat what others have said about the psu.

Opteron 144?

Sun Mar 26, 2006 2:11 am

Consider the 939pin Opteron 144 if you are planning on OCing. Monarch has them for about $130 (OEM) + s&h, here.
It is a 1.8GHz w/ 1MB cache, but many OC to 2.6-2.7Ghz range.
I'm considering it for a build of my own.
I just found this heat sink at the Egg, the Scythe BAT1VS, here.
Read the reviews... the first one(Too cold) got my attention!
Good luck!

Hmm... is that why I found this odd? Can't they just do a brush metal black look in front?

Ive never heard of any problems with the nec 3550 drive. Its an awsome drive that i always recommend have two myself never had a problem. Had both roomates get one theyve never had a problem. ALso suggested to multiple friends theyve never had a problem. So basically out of 10 drives that I personally know of they are flawless. Its one of the most popular drives there is. So I would say anyones report of problems if there are any is just bad luck and a small, very small percentage.

Could all of them get the same bad batch?

lol you act as if 100 ppl had problems. In that thread there were 6 drives with 4 problems total. This is a tech forum ppl usually post when their **** dont work so your gonna see a higher percentage. Its like take a race poll in the middle of mexico city....your gonna get a lot of mexicans. How many thousands of drives do you suppose they have sold so far. So far of the drives i personally know of 10 are for 10.

Edit:
Make that 11 out of 11 forgot roomate screwed up with newegg and ordered 2 of the same harddrives and dvd burners by accident  .

Well, the 3550 was not reviewed by cdrlabs and cdfreaks, so I couldn't really say. The LG4167 and BenQ got high marks from the reviews. So I will stick with that.

Interestingly enough, NEC already put out the 4550.
