comparing monitors

Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:59 pm

Building a new computer for my parents and looking at monitors. They do simple stuff like photo albums, email, web surfing, youtube videos. no video games.
Does it matter if i choose this one

The motherboard you linked doesn't have integrated graphics. I foresee that being a bit of an issue for you.

Nokia Lumia 928
Sony a7 with far too many lenses to list or even count

The Hannis has built-in speakers; the Asus has a HDMI port. Do they need the built-in speakers? I'm assuming they don't care about the HDMI.

Personally I'd trust Asus more than Hannis, but they both seem to have good customer reviews.

The Hannis has free shipping, but the Asus does not; so the price differential is larger than it appears at first glance.

 I just took his word for it that the mobo had an IGP...

I suggest this one instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131758

It's even 10 bucks less than the one in the OP...

Edit: Or if you don't mind dropping to a Radeon 3000 class IGP and only 2 DIMM slots (which should be fine for this application), you could save even more money by going with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131728

Edit 2: That last one I linked (the cheap one) only supports CPUs up to 95W, if that's a concern.

Oh I didn't realize that it didn't have integrated graphics.. does it matter than the ones you suggested say micro ATX?

Only if you need the extra expansion slots that come with a full ATX motherboard.

Micro ATX motherboards are compatible with full-size ATX cases. If you put a micro ATX motherboard in a case that is designed for a full ATX motherboard, there will be some unused space inside the case at the bottom (for a tower case) or on the left (for a desktop case). This can actually make it easier to get things set up, since you've got more room to work inside the case when connecting up front panel USB cables, power/reset button, etc... or you can go with a smaller case if you want a system that takes up less space overall.

For photo albums, an IPS or PVA/MVA LCD panel would be nicer than TN LCDs.

I could not agree more, though you are talking a completely different price range. $400 for something like a Dell U2412M or $500 for the U2410. At least unless you can find a sale or coupon...which I don't see at the moment.
