Notes on the new build

Postposted on Wed Nov 02, 2011 5:42 am

So I finally replaced my 2004 model Athlon 64 3000+ based desktop with a new build... Here's what I got:

Phenom X6 1090T (stock cooler)
Asus Sabertooth 990FX
16GB Corsair 1600Mhz DDR3
Kingston HyperX 120G SSD
Seagate Green 2TB
HIS IceQ 6950 2Gb Turbo
LG Blu-ray writer
Corsair 650W TX
Coolermaster 690 advanced (stock coolers)
Windows 7 home Premium

Quite pleased with the system, 7.5 Windows experience index is better than I expected. Nice and quiet so far, HIS make a nice gfx card.

Is the stock AMD cooler quiet enough for you when the CPU is under load?

It is quiet enough at the moment, although the system is not quite in it's final location as I am still finalizing the build and moving out the old box...

I did definitely notice the stock cooler spinning up when the case was right next to me on the build table, but I went stock because I have had good experiences with the stock AMD coolers on a couple of other builds.

they are OK at stock settings.

However, you can easily OC that CPU, and then an After market cooler is well worth the investment for better results and reduced noise.
