Budget Build around 400~500

Postposted on Thu Dec 15, 2011 5:15 am

hail
friend asked me to help with budget comp build
budget is around 500$ and he wants to game on it too ;/
thats for just the case

this is what I come up with so far
CPU i3-2100 $124.99 http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i3-2100-Pro ... E450NVH4B2
MB ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM $67.99 http://www.amazon.com/P8H61-M-CSM-REV-3 ... E450NVH4B2
PS Corsair Builder Series CX V2 430 $44.99 http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-430-Watt- ... E450NVH4B2
RAM Corsair XMS3 4 GB 1333MHz $24.99 http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-1333MHz-P ... E450NVH4B2

and I'm not yet sure about GPU, Ati seems to be better for budget builds feeling gaps between Nvidias x50 -> x60-
thinking about this: Radeon HD 6850 $144.99 http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-6 ... 183&sr=8-1

also have doubts about PS, will 430 be able to handle it?

No reason to doubt that PSU. It'll handle that load with ease. Are you recycling any parts, or do you need to buy drives/case too? If that $500 is just for the "core" parts, you might want to check out the <$525 challenge we took on after the last TR system guide. There are some very reasonable complete systems there for less than $500, some of them approaching $425.

also: holy cats the forums are slow this morning.

edit: may not be the forums; probably my internet connection at work. Google loads slow as heck too.

I second the notion about the <$525 thread, also about the 430W PSU. Thats plenty, you'd be able to get by with a 380W using a 6850.

As far as your OP system. You're on the right track there, it basically looks like the Econobox from TR's system guide. Your motherboard looks cheap for ASUS offerings. Maybe check out ASRock (ASUS' sister company) if you need that price but possibly more features.

You can get the AMD 6870 for that price AMIR.

Rosewill PSU is new Great-wall design, Great value for gold rated. The Delta units are solid but older/less efficient.

$30 8 GB mem. Great cooler master 912 $55 case round out add ideas.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102948 $145 AMIR AMD 6870

Pushing you up to the higher ends of your budget, but great jumps in value for the couple extra dollars.

If this is accurate, ASRock is owned by Pegatron:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mainboards ... umour.html

And Pegatron was spun off in 2010:

http://semiaccurate.com/2010/02/11/asus ... ing-close/

Yes it's Charlie, but it's not about nVidia so it shouldn't draw too much fire. :p

ASRock does, by all accounts, have a very nice UEFI that seems very similar to ASUS's, so maybe there's still some shared tech.
