Hello, new to building completely, I've looked through reviews and other forums and ect. for options and I made a build in pc part picker that I think would suit my needs and looking for advice on it. I'd be using it mostly for high end gaming since my m11xr2 is staggering behind already and only about a year and a half on it, here is the build i have picked out: http://pcpartpicker.com/ca/p/ooBX any advice or thoughts on it would be cool, thanks

The i7-3770 won't overclock, so the high-end motherboard and 1200 W power supply will be lost on it. If you want to overclock, you need an unlocked "k" part, like the i7-3770k.

In fact, the 1200 W power supply is way, way too much.

If you're spending this much, you want an SSD.

Are you sure you need that ROG motherboard? Does it offer a special feature you can't live without? There are plenty of perfectly good LGA1155 motherboards for much less.

Pretty much to repeat what UltimateImperative said and a few others.

1) The 1TB is fine for storage, but for gaming, get yourself an SSD, something around 500+MB/s write.
2) 1200 W is overkill. That system you'd be find with something around 600W
3) Any reason you want that motherboard? You can get a Z77 motherboard for around $115
4) You should think about getting an external sound card (Asus Xonar). Might be worthwhile.

Try an Asus P8Z77-V LK or P8Z77-M Pro motherboard, instead.
Try a Core i5-3570K or Core i7-3770K processor, instead. Hyper-threading doesn't help much for gaming, so the cheaper Core i5 provides almost the same performance for $100 less.
Try an Antec Earthwatts Green EA-650 or EA-750 power supply, instead. Here's a weekly special on the EA-650 Platinum and here's another for the SeaSonic M12 II 750.
Add a 90 to 256 GB SSD like the Samsung 830 for your operating system.

Possibly: if you have a store close to where you live, consider the price of getting your case there, vs. having it shipped. If you have a Canada Computers near you, you would only pay $5 more after MIR than at NCIX, and possibly save shipping. Cases are really a personal taste thing, but consider the Corsair 500R and C70 that are at a discount this week at CC, or the InWin BUC, or at NCIX the Antec Three Hundred or Three Hundred Two, or if you don't mind the look the Zalman Z9/Z11.

I was thinking about looking around in stores for cases but wasn't sure if any case would be fine for the parts i have picked out, i'll do some looking before i buy a case online though and there is a CC 30 minutes away so I'll have a look there, thanks for the heads up

Your revised build seems decent. Only things I would suggest is to install an SSD (64-128GB in size) to install Windows onto (edit: see you already did that), and maybe if your fussy about audio stick an X-FI Titanium (if you can still find them) or something like it in your PC. Like your case preference, it's always going to split opinion, but my X-FI sounds a lot better than the Realtek whatever it is that MSI threw onto my board as an afterthought!

Re: case, you want an ATX or bigger case, with a good build quality, convenience features, a good airflow/noise compromise (depending on your preference) and looks that you like. In the $50-100 range, the Bitfenix Shinobi, Corsair 200R-300R-400R, the Antec 302, the NZXT Source (which unfortunately went up in price recently) all seem reasonable to me. The In-win Dragon Rider and BUC are also good, as are, for a little more, stuff like the more expensive Corsairs or the Fractal Design Define R4.
