Upgrade motherboards and windows 8

Thu Jan 10, 2013 10:31 am

I have a PC which I built myself a few years ago consisting of an Asus P5W DH Deluxe mobo running Windows 7 Pro. I have just upgraded it to Windows 8 Pro without any problems. I now realise that to make full use of Win 8 I need to upgrade to a more modern mobo. Im planning to change my rig to the new Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe mobo, an Intel Ivy Bridge 3rd gen CPU and DDR3 RAM.

Will the new setup recognise the SATA disk on which Wind 8 reside or will I have to re-install Windows 8 from scratch? I hope I wont have to re-install because that would mean re-installing all my applications.

I plan to use the new machine as a workstation/home server, not as a gaming rig. So, I suppose I wont need liquid cooling.

Will I be able to use my existing 600 Watt PSU?

Any suggestions highly appreciated.

Why?
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.
