Upgrade thoughts

Postposted on Wed Jan 16, 2013 6:20 am

So, I've bought some new goodies for my machine! Finally :D A new CPU (i5 3750K, lets OC this baby ^^), some RAM (2x4Gb), a new Force 3 90 to RAID 0 with my existing one and a beautiful ASUS MX239H AH-IPS display :D . Gonna put them up and running this weekend

Well, so about those thoughts... My MSI GTX560Ti has a 2 year overclock to 950Mhz on the core along with a modest OC in the memory too (2300Mhz I think), so it has basically 90% performance of a GTX570. When I think of upgrading to a new graphic card, I look at the prices/performance. I've payed 2 years ago 240€ for my card, with this amount of money now I only can buy something like a GTX660 or a HD7870. Basically, I would have like what? 10%-20% bump of performance in relation to my current card? Is it wise to spend money on an upgrade like this, at this time?

When do the next generation NVIDIA/AMD cards come out? Maybe then for the same money the difference in performance could reach 50%? I that happens, oh yes I'll upgrade indeed :)

Share your thoughts, I appreciate

Best regards

1) Are you unhappy with the performance of your current 560Ti?
2) I wouldn't get anything less than a 670 ($350) if you want a new card now.
3) I generally skip every other product cycle since the incremental performance increases don't justify the cost. (aka I would wait until AMD 8xxx or Nvidia 7xx)
4) AMD has quoted Q2 2013 which means June-ish. I haven't heard anything on Nvidia. They'll probably be behind AMD on launch dates, same story as the current 7xxx / 6xx GPU launches were.

Could be better :D Although I'm satisfied with it, I no longer can push all eye candy features in some heavy games (cut out some AA settings, etc). It's still more then enough to have a pleasant experience in all games though.

Yes if I had the cash it would be the minimum I acquire to justify an upgrade.

That's what the majority of people do, so I'm on the same boat I guess...

Probably only in 2014 I will make the jump then. I would not buy a AMD card without comparing it to the NVIDIA cards also.

Thank you for your opinions sir
