New Mini ITX build, any suggestions?

Wed Dec 18, 2013 6:59 pm

Hi all,

I'm looking at building a Mini ITX system for video editing and a bit of light gaming. I've chosen the parts, basically I just want to know if there's anything anyone would change? I want it to be as powerful as possible (in terms of CPU performance) so I will be over clocking.

Gigabyte GA-Z87N-WIFI
i7 4770K
Corsair RM-550 PSU
GTX650Ti 2GB
2x 8GB DDR3-1600 Kingston RAM
256GB Samsung 840 SSD
Bitfenix Prodigy case

Thanks for any info :)

Storage: 2x Crucial MX100 512GB SSDs - RAID 0 | 2x Western Digital 3TB HDDs - RAID 1

$137 -19½ code "EMCWVWV79" Gigabyte GA-Z87N-WiFi
I don't have a strong feeling either way, but how does that compare to the $140 -10MIR ASRock Z87E-ITX ?

How about $128 2x 8 GiB PC3-12800 Crucial BLS8G3D1609ES2LX0 (low profile, DDR3-1600, CAS 9, 1.35 V (also runs at DDR3-1866, CAS 10)) ?

I'm not a fan of the mini-ITX BitFenix Prodigy because at 32.6 liters, it is larger on the outside than many good micro-ATX cases. If you're going to make the sacrifices to limit yourself to a mini-ITX motherboard, you should at least get a mini-sized system out of it.

What about the FT-03 Mini?

Small footprint, a little tall, but like the Prodigy it's styling is unique and it can fit top-end parts.

This may sound silly, but my main reason for wanting the Prodigy case is the colours (love the blue) and the styling.

As for the motherboard, I'm choosing the Gigabyte board because I want to dual boot Windows and OS X (Hackintosh) as I use Final Cut, and that board is one of the recommended fully compatible models.

Thanks for all the tips though :)
