Mechanical Keyboard Switches

Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:50 am

Is it possible to have a mechanical KB with a variety of switches? Like, are they interchangeable? Say, I want my WASD and arrow keys to have a different feel than my other keys? (I have a Rosewill RK-9100 KB with cmx Blues.) Please advise. Thank you!!

The keys are interchangeable if you don't mind soldering stuff.

Yup. You'll need to disassemble the keyboard and desolder the existing switch mechanisms from the underside of the PCB; then you pop them out of the mounting plate. Installation of the replacement switches is the reverse of removal.

Make sure you get a keycap puller tool, and if you're going to mess with any of the large keys (Spacebar, Shift, Enter, etc.) you may also want to get some spare stabilizer clips and springs in case you damage the existing ones.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
