I was recently looking into doing a new build, a mini-itx in the Silverstone SG-08, which is a pretty small mini-itx case. I intend to use this as my main rig, which is responsible for Adobe Lightroom, occasional 1080p gaming, and maybe the very occasional video editing.

I was curious about processors though - would it be work the extra money to drop in an unlocked processor? Would I easily be able to at least get a small overclock without the heat becoming a limit? If I was building a micro or atx case I would definitely go for the unlocked processor with overclock. I was looking at the i5-4570 vs the i5-4670k, I'm just trying to figure out if the SG-08 would be able to handle a mild OC, and if that would even be worth the extra cost.

Primary concern will be clearance around the CPU socket. Make sure whatever motherboard you choose it is far enough away from both the DIMM slots and the PCIe slot. The Silverstone SG-08 plus one of Noctua's lower profile (and it doesn't even need to be exceptionally short with the SG-08) will handle some mild overclocking just fine.

IIRC, the SG08 (I own one) was designed to dissipate 500W of heat, so any sane overclock shouldn't be limited by the case's ability to expel heat. Haswell doesn't overclock all that well, so it's up to you if there's value in the K-series CPU.

I just built a Mini ITX rig and went with a i3-4330 to keep the initial build price low. However one day I will upgrade it to the 4770K.

The Silverstone Sugo SG08 has 117mm of clearance for a CPU cooler beneath its massive 180mm intake fan. That allows relatively tall cooling solutions like the $40 CoolerMaster GeminII S524, the $48 Silverstone NT06-E (plus $16 fan), the $60 Phanteks PH-TC14CS (with bottom mount fan only) or the $85 Noctua NH-C14 (with bottom mount fan only). There's also enough room for the $58 Silverstone NT06-Pro with a $16 additional fan mounted on the top side of the cooler.

Each of these coolers can dissipate 130 watts or more. That should be enough for mild overclocking of an LGA1150 Haswell CPU. The CoolerMaster GeminII S524 looks like the best value. I have one running in my living room PC, but the Core i5-3570K there is not overclocked.
