Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD $171 @Newegg 1 Day

Mon Apr 06, 2015 11:01 am

Newegg.com has the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM) on sale for $189.99 - $19 promo code EMCARAT22 (apply at checkout) = $170.99. EggSaver Shipping is $2.99.

In my case, I had a $25 gift card from Christmas, so I got mine for $150.98 shipped (I went to three day shipping instead of EggSaver, which I loathe). The 850 EVO has a five-year warranty, which is a huge plus. My desktop is going to get this as its boot drive, making it the last system in the house to get an SSD.

Thanks.

Hopefully the TLC NAND variant in this one is more reliable than the 840 EVO. :)

And Samsung's profit margin is still through the roof compared to other SSD manufacturers.

Ehh... after seeing how 840 evo's slow down with old data (I think I've seen it on mine), I'll pass. A BX100 is $185 - still think I'd prefer that even though it lacks the Marvell controller. Sometimes I'd rather pay a few bucks more to not worry about problems. I'll forget about the sticker price after a while, but I won't forget about glitches that bug me on a regular basis.
