ZipZoomFly(energy efficient AM2 X2 4000+) $184+free shipping

Thu Jul 27, 2006 6:03 pm

Hi everyone!

ZipZoomFly is offering the energy efficient version of the AM2 X2 4000+ at a very attractive price.

Not sure why they are doing it as I have found the CPU for more than double the ZZF price at some of the other sites. I think this is an incredible deal because AMD has discontinued the 2MB cache chips and the energy efficient chips are VERY hard to find.

Is this a good price before or after the price breaks?

It's an after the price cut price, but for some reason ZZF is not charging the typical 35 dollar premium that goes with the energy efficient CPUs... Also, AMD is no longer making the 2 MB CPUs... speculation is because they are more expensive to make and AMD is now being the price leader instead of the performance leader in the wake of Intel's new CPUs.

Anybody else notice that ZZF says the 4000+ is a 2.2GHz part when in fact it's only 2GHz?

They got the clock frequency wrong, but the part number is correct, so it's most likely still the energy efficient version of the 4000+.

Its a regular 4000 (89W) now, but the clockspeed is still wrong.

At least they aren't price gouging it like newegg still is.

Although...I can't help wondering that maybe its a misentered 4200 X2 instead of a misentered 4000 X2

I just got the CPU Monday. It's the 89 watt version. I've emailed them requesting that they send the EE version. If they don't I am going to return it. It's still a good price at 198.00. Once the supply of 2MB cache CPUs gets low the price will probably go up a bit more.

Ugh, now I have two 89 watt CPUs...

The system is together now, but work is preventing me from having time to tweak it. I've got windows installed on two 320 GB Seagate perpendicular drives in Raid0 format, but haven't had a chance to evaluate its performance.
