$58½ with free shipping looks like a bargain. The HD103SJ is a quiet and speedy drive that sells for $75 at Newegg.

The Newegg price is inflated now... which sucks. I purchased my F3 several months back for $60 with free shipping from Newegg.

They're actually running a Labor Day special on it now which puts it back at that price ($59.99, free shipping). Use promo code EMCYWPZ27.

Yeah it's dropped to 59.99 about every other week for the past couple months. I got one a few weeks ago.

Yep, it's back again. $59.99 with free shipping at Newegg (normally 74.99)

Even though mine was essentially DOA (failed a full format at about 30% with a HUGE number of bad blocks) it's a drive that's well worth looking at. Especially at that price.

How does the performance on one of these compare to a caviar black? I'm in the market for a new harddrive but I sort of feel like its worth getting a really fast one because its often the bottleneck.

TR gave it an editor's choice at least partly because of its performance.

Tech Report wrote:We're left with Samsung's Spinpoint F3, which is our clear favorite of the four. Not only does the F3 offer the best performance in all manner of sequential transfers, it's easily the quietest of the drives overall. I'm not thrilled by the fact that the F3's transaction rates drop off after 32 concurrent I/O requests, but that's not a condition many desktop users are likely to face. Besides, the Spinpoint certainly held its own in our disk-intensive multitasking tests, which are far more indicative of the sort of workloads produced by enthusiast desktops. Samsung doesn't give up much ground to the Caviar when it comes to random access times, either.

I'm pretty sure it traded blows with the Caviar in a few tests (and lead in most of them); Here's the full review if you're interested.

It's down to $54.99 after promo code right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

That's a pretty exceptional deal for a terabyte. Too bad I have no use for it, currently.
