http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231314

Newegg has G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL on sale for $75 with free shipping. Toss in the 15% off desktop memory customer appreciation coupon that they just e-mailed me this afternoon, and the price came down to $63.74 for this 2x4 GiB kit of DDR3-1600 memory. 8)

Update:
This same memory is $70 -10 code "EMCKCJH23" with free shipping today.

I bought this memory about 2-3 months ago. Worth every penny. And the price is so good, I've been tempted to go to 16 GiB, but that seems juast a little excessive.

Got this around Xmas time. Yes 16gb is excessive but I can now run many many VM's

I just bought that exact set. The promo code doesn't work but if you bother the customer support it does (unless they fixed it).

The best thing? I don't own a single system that can use DDR3. I'm just stocking up for my next upgrade. :P

I really can't believe memory is so cheap. The first 4GiB set of 1600MHz DDR3 I bought early last year was a little over $100. Now we're down to $70 for 8GiB. 12GiB is better than 4, I guess. !!!!!!

I should grab three of these and replace this awful OCZ memory I've been shackled to. Stupid budget.
Please don't edit my signature for me. Thanks.

Your link is to a 2x2 GiB kit, not 2x4 GiB.

The 15% off coupon has expired and the $70 kit that I linked above is back to $100, but I thought that 2x4 GiB of PC3-12800 for $59½ with free shipping was worth sharing with the gerbils here while it lasted.

That was a sweet deal. I'm already running 16gb though, so no use for me unfortunately.

So, given the incredible cheapness of RAM these days, where are the multitasking benchmarks that look at performance / GB? There can't be much benefit from going above 4GB (1156) or 6GB (1366)? People talk about virtualization (more guests), Photoshop (less scratch), but what benefit is there to an Excel / Outlook jockey like me?

Still, I could appreciate 24GB in my main machine.

I love me some cheap memory... but I can't bring myself to buy RAM with heatspreaders on it.

Not having to spend money for your next upgrade possibly. Or Windows indexing or whatever they use to load stuff in RAM.

Mine just got here today...damn has Newegg's packaging gone downhill. The vacuum formed plastic was the only thing protecting my RAM in a bubble pack. :x

Then take them off!

Try finding RAM without heatspreaders...

As excessive as it seems, I rather like them. I opened up a computer that my brother had sent over to my house and found 2 sticks with heatspreaders. It actually made me happy. It's one of those odd little things that brightens my day. That and colored PCBs. There is absolutely no reason to stick with the awful green. Black would be nice...
I will say I can't stand the excessive heatsinks. The Kingston HyperX ones are nice in that they just cover the PCB and chips; they don't stick up garishly. Same with Corsair XMS though I don't like the colors of those. OCZ had it right with their heatspreaders, but they're out of the business now.

Personally I love green boards. Probably because I never owned one - the Asus P2B-F was brown, the MSI KT3V was red, and my Asus M4A88TD-V EVO is classic Asus brown again. Plus it seems all manufacturers are standardizing on black. One day, black will be the new green and everybody will be going back to green.

Plus it makes me feel like I'm owning something meant for real work - not something marketed to appeal to teenagers. My 9114-275 has a big green motherboard that's about half the thickness of my LCD monitor.
