This is a good price for a switch in metal casing. Generally, the deal price for any 8-port gigabit switch hovers around $34.

I bought one of these a couple of years ago for field use (converting a single Ethernet drop to 7 additional drops) and it's been completely trouble-free. Now if only the 16-port version would come down in price.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

FWIW Newegg also has 8-port gigabit Rosewill switches with metal cases for $29.99 with free shipping.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
