MSI 650 Ti for $110 w/ BL2

Wed Jan 30, 2013 10:37 am

Newegg has the MSI GTX 650 Ti for $110 after MIR with a free copy of Borderlands 2 until the end of the day tomorrow (1/31) That's a pretty good deal considering it's faster than a 7770 and typically sells for ~$150.

What is this "rebate card" nonsense that newegg is doing. Is that where you "get" the rebate immediately on a card that can only be used to buy other things on newegg?

As I understand it, the "rebate cards" are preloaded credit/debit cards which can be used anywhere (these kind of cards are accepted) that are mailed to you about the time you think it will never ever arrive, and there is a per-use fee.

Ugh. That sounds awful. Newegg slides a little further...

Yes, mail-in-rebates for most products on newegg are almost always pre-loaded credit cards. This is controlled by the manufacturers though, newegg just gets them to offer the MIR. I've recieved some MIRs in a timely fashion, while others have taken the full 10 weeks (and two from Xigmatek took them 6 months with me hounding them) but they always come. Never had a "per-use fee" though.

If you don't like the MIR, you can just not file for it and pay the same price as you would at any other e-tailer.

Hmm, that sounds intriguing. I'm not a huge fan of rebates since you never know if you will get one or not, but this card has potential for upgrading an older system of mine. It's got a PCI-E 1.1 slot and from what I've been able to find out it looks like the latest AMD cards (7750/7770) won't work in there due to the way they implemented power savings while the GTX 600 line (including the 650TI ) will work in that slot. If the rebate comes through the price is better than most of the 7770 cards listed on Newegg.
