If by tabs you mean tablets, right now the Nook HD and HD+ are on sale for $130 and $150. They both have much better screens than anything else in their price range (1440x900 & 1920x1280, respectively) competent internal specs, and pretty good build quality. Their only downsides is no camera or gps, and while it has access to both B&N app store and the Google Play store now, you have to hack it if you want to install apps from other sources, like Amazon's app store.
I got a Nook HD+ as a Father's day gift, and really like it. It works really well for web browsing, book & comic viewing, and watching movies on the go. Plus it has a nifty carabiner hole on it, so I can clip it to my belt for easy transport.
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent. The competent use violence well before last resorts are necessary.
If violence isn't solving your problems, then you aren't using enough of it.
