Even for $110 that's not a bad price. Wonder what controller it uses...

From PNY Website:
Synchronous MLC/SLC/or TLC NAND (I'd guess MLC, but this is a pretty low price for synchronous. I wouldn't be surprised if it was async. though, like the Kingston V300)
up to 60k IOPS (4k)...that's average, doesn't say much.
The newegg specs page and reviews give more read/write info though. Most likely a Sandfarce controller.

Still the best price/GB I've seen.

Indeed. I own a 120GB PNY XLR8 and generally despise their offerings. I received my SSD via CL for free (long story) so at that price I didn't turn it down. :D

I could recommend this deal to the average joe all day long, but for a techno savvy user or any TR peeps, I'd say look elsewhere. Their website tends to leave you looking for a drive's specs, and the firmware updates are not nearly as common as other brands.

This is an awesome price! Really despise those MIRs though. I recently got a samsung 840 evo for my laptop and it really put a smile on my face when I witnessed how fast it was.

Still waiting for decent SSDs at around $40-50. If there's 480GB for $230 and 240GB for $90, surely there can be 120GB for $45? When it comes I hope they stop the annoying trend of artificially limiting the lower capacity drives by using less channels. The M550 did something to address this, so perhaps the market is going in the right direction.

I'm pretty sure that's not an artificial limitation but a function of the number of channels in the controller, how many are filled, and cost per die (which drives densities up and populated channels down)

Sure it's how many are filled, and with 120GB they tend to have half as many as in 240+ instead of using lower capacity modules to get the same number of channels. Even if more flash modules costs a bit more, the decrease in capacity makes it probably cheaper overall. It might also be a way to use partially bad dies. But M550 bucks the trend. We'll see if others follow.

Even if it's not the fastest drive you can get for this price I can afford to use it for virtual machines, laptop drives, boot drives on desktop systems. Still going to feel a lot faster than a mechanical drive.

Bumping this thread only to say I think it's bogus PNY is getting taken to task over using multiple controllers. My post from April shows that Newegg advertised it that way and DPete's shows that we always knew the controller was a mystery and the drive only needed to meet their advertised performance ratings. What Kingston did was shady. What PNY did was fine by me because the public should have been aware.
