Best AM2+ Motherboard

If you have 1st hand experience, I'd really like to hear from you!!

I've been building computers for years now... I've used Abit, Asus and for my last few build's I've be pretty partial to MSI....

I've never owned a DFI board, but I find myself leaning in that direction right now... I know it only has 3 VC slots, but to be quite honest, I don't even see myself doing Crossfire, much less CrossfireX!!

That being said, down the road Crossfire may be a good option, and having the 3rd slot to stick an old card in for physics would be nice to have!

I've been around long enough to realize that being an early adopter of new technology (especially Chipset and Processor at the same time) is risky.... But there is just something about Phenom that intrigues me, so please don't recommend Intel boards (Sheesh!)

That DFI board will be packed to the gills with very advanced tweaking features. It'll be top dollar too. I voted for the DFI but now I'm having second thoughts. The MSI board is reasonably priced, still has decent enough overclocking features, and is probably the better board for normal use.

I voted for the DFI as well...the 939 boards they put out were the hotest thing since Salma....expensive for sure...but if you like to overclock you wont be disappointed

the asus mobo is the most expensive of all but it has the best feutures of them all. I voted for that one bexause it is top quality and also it's an asus which you can't fault

the asus mobo is junk. Never seen one of them yet that everything worked perfectly on and I have had my hands on a bunch of them. The best AMD motherboards I have ever had all said EPOX on them. With the death of EPOX I have started using Gigabyte for pretty much everything.

Epox was good. Biostar has been extremely extremely good to me and I'd not hesitate to get another if it met the criteria. I've only had one Asus and it was a pleasant experience. Never had an MSI. I've got a Gigabyte right now and while it is the best featured 690G mobo it's not at all perfect - chipsink too small / hot, capacitors around socket to big / close, mobo makes a screeching sound occasionally, Ctrl-F1 for OC options is silly, no voltage adjustments in any of the supported BIOSs....

I wouldn't mind trying an MSI mobo. I've heard good things.

I am running the Asus M3A single video card board with the 770 chipset, and
a 3850. It all works fine for my modest needs.
It was cheap and has the Phenom feature set. (but no Phenom......yet)

I have only had one MSI motherboard. I am still using it in my sons computer. It is a good solid motherbaord at stock speeds but doesnt overclock worth ****.

Actually Hance, My MSI Neo4 is a pretty decent overclocker!

The problem with MSI is the time it takes them to get thier BIOS where they need to be to take full advantage of the boards potential. When I bought the Neo4 it had already been out for about 6 months and I didn't get a good (Stable) OC'ing Bios for about 4 months after that...

From reading some of the threads over at XS it looks like they're heading down that road again and I really don't want to wait a year for the bios to catch up....

I know it's a little pricey, but I think I'll take a chance with the DFI board.

That's funny, I've sworn off MSI because of my frustrations with the Neo4. There were just too many quirks that i couldn't stand. Instead of the MSI i paid the 15% restock at newegg and ended up getting the abit AT8 32X. Since that board i've sworn by abit myself. Now i've moved onto the abit IP35. Happily i might add.

I've not heard any news of an Abit AM2+ board.

I voted DFI because my 939 board truly has the best overclocking features and DFI has a track record for giving great BIOS flexibility. I'm still waiting for a board that DOESN'T cover the damn x1 slot when you run a double slot card. There are a lot of good x1 cards out now that I would love to use. You simply can't use the slot if you have a good graphics card. Also that DFI has no need for an x4 slot. I've yet to see a use for an x4 slot on a desktop motherboard.

Heh... I just bought an AM2+ board!!

As much as I was leaning toward the DFI, I bought the MSI K9A2...
They were getting pretty scarce, and I know MSI has good production capabilities, so someone must like them!! 8)...
Seems like the DFI 790 boards ROCK when it comes to X2's but are pretty weak when it comes to Phenom....

I've been reading the Phenom Threads over at Extreme Systems... Seems like there are some folks over there who are Insiders, and a bunch of nuts who don't care if they fry stuff!... It's pretty educational really!

Trust me, as soon as I get a SMOKING Phenom BE to go with it, I'll give all you Intel Fanbois something to think about!! (or maybe laugh at :-? ) For a <$300 processor I'm sure it will do what I need, and it sounds like alot of fun for a Geek....

Thanks to all you folks for your suggestions!!
