There is a new ASUS BIOS version, 2001 available for download. It says it is supposed to enable support for Next Gen 22nm Processor. My thinking is that the new BIOS will be better in general. Should I download this update or should I stay with 1850? Will this update conflict with my i5 2500k?, ASUS P8P67 PRO REV 3.1

generally speaking, once a CPU is supported by a BIOS it's supported by future revisions of the BIOS as well. You should be fine to update, though it will only be useful to you once Ivy Bridge comes out. I'd be tempted to wait a bit if only to put off the chances of a bad flash.

FWIW I've always updated my ASUS BIOS with no issues; the new BIOS often includes fixes as well as updates for new CPU and RAM types.

I haven't learned that yet, what is going on in side when you get a bad flash?

It's only happened to me once, but when it did I was left with a completely un-bootable board. I had to ship it back to ASUS and they were relatively quick to get back to me with a replacement board complete with brand new retail packaging. It's pretty rare anymore, though.

Just don't be like me and develop a habit of flashing BIOSes when it's thunderstorming outside.

Never had a power out when I did that.

Though I found found BIOS flashing a pretty safe process, I tend to adhere to the 'if it don't need fixing, don't flash it' theory. If your system is fast and stable, and the bios update contains no new features that you need, then wait until there is a reason to flash.
