Welcome to the Tech Report!

Have you checked out the System Guide?

You'll want a motherboard with Intel's Z68 chipset.

2x4 GiB of PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600) memory is priced attractively.
i7-4770K, H70, Gryphon Z87, 16 GiB, R9-290, SSD, 2 HD, Blu-ray, SB ZX, TJ08-E, SS-660XP², 3007WFP+2001FP, RK-9000BR, MX518

just fyi, microcenter still has the core i5 2500k for $179.00.

you also get $50 off select motherboards when you bundle.

i got the core i5 and gigabyte z68-ud3 for $288.

can't beat that.
