HA, yeah no kidding. I had an Abit mobo with a post code display that saved my hair from being ripped out a couple times.
I'm assuming you already tried clearing the CMOS?
You could also try the: unplug PSU AC cable, press power button, plug PSU AC cable back in, press power button again trick. I've seen that fix all kinds of funky problems.
