M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 won't switch to AHCI mode

Wed Oct 31, 2012 8:49 pm

I have a 880G+SB850 board, a DVD writer on SATA port 5, and a ST96812AS and Vertex 2 on ports 1 and 2. I switch Ports 1-4 to AHCI mode, but it still uses IDE mode (it identifies the drives with an IDE: prefix in the BIOS), and I still can't use the OCZ SSD Toolbox (because it's in IDE mode). I thought maybe one of the drives is forcing it into IDE mode through some error, so I unplugged it until the only drives left were the DVD drive and one of the hard drives, but the IDE problem still persists. Has anyone encountered such a problem?

EDIT: just updated the BIOS. No luck.

No, AHCI simply wasn't being enabled in the BIOS.

But amazingly, when I switched it to IDE mode, now the drives are recognized as SATA drives with AHCI, and now OCZ's Toolbox works! Useless Asus. The least they could do was make sure a BIOS option does what it says.
