FX 9590 and Asus Sabertooth 990FX compatible?

Has anybody tried the AMD FX9590 with the Asus Sabertooth 990FX motherboard?

I am thinking of upgrading the CPU-DDR-Motherboard from my AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE rig currently in my sig. I would probably get 32GB of Crucial Tech Ballistix DDR to go with it. Video card will remain XFX Radeon HD 7870, PSU is SeaSonic SS-660XP². I I have 3 x 120mm case fans and I am running the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus with two 120mm fans so I think that would be adequate for CPU cooling? I will be checking mfr web site for compatibility but just wondered if anybody has any experience to relate. Thanks!

According to Asus website only revision 2.0 and and Gen3 rev. 2.0 support the FX 9590. That CPU cooler may not be enough, as it is a middle grade air cooler.

Pretty sure the crosshair supports it but since you have not bought the MB yet why not get one that absolutely supports the cpu, like this Asrock one.

Hmmm, had not realized that AMD suggests a 1200W psu for the higher power FX processors. I may have to scale back to the FX8350. Does ASRock have the same stellar reputation that Asus does?

You will definitely need a more powerful cpu cooler, my 212 + has a bit of trouble cooling my 965@ 4ghz when I experiment with NB overclocking(have to raise NB voltage, which has a large effect on temps, which climb a bit north of 60C) and I have it on good authority the FX chips aren't known for their power efficiency

You can't be serious. 1200W? Things are getting out of hand. 220W CPU, sir you need a 1200W PSU.

I have a FX 9590,PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III 850 watt,GIGABYTE GV-N770OC-2GD GeForce GTX 770, and Asus Sabertooth 990fx motherboard. It works fine, I disable turbo core function so it doesn't go up to 5 GHZ this increase my system performance about 4%. You will need to do some kind of water cooling for your CPU.
Ocz brought out PC Power and Cooling, OCZ is going through bankruptcy because of there SSd Hard drive business, Toshiba is buying them out right now. 750 high end watt power supply from CORSAIR or from PC Power and Cooling should work unless you are using a very high end Video Card.

Hell, back in the '80s Audio magazine used a pair of 25W/8 ohm monobloc Mark Levinson ML-2 audio amps as an arc welder. The amps were fed a 1KHz tone and the reporter stated that the welding plasma emitted a strong 1Khz tone. The amps completed the weld and were found to be in perfect condition after the fact.

You don't need a 1200W PSU.

Unless you install three or more high-end graphics cards in that system, your SS-660XP2's 55A on the +12V line is plenty of capacity.

Message received, I do not need a 1200W psu. I was just responding to that first link for the 99FX ASRock Extreme 9 which states right there (scroll to bottom of page) that AMD suggests as a minimum requirement a 1200W psu on any 5GHz system. Oh and they also require water cooling (DOH). Read the link yourselves if you don't believe me. Very glad this new 660W psu will work. And from CMOI's response it sounds like the motherboard I prefer would work. But not happy about having to water cool the rig.

Anyway, I will have to postpone this adventure. My cat got diagnosed Saturday with an abscessed tooth and taking the tooth out is gonna eat up all my available cash for a while. Wimper wimper.

Edited for clarity

Anybody have an opinion about the bundled water cooling kit that is available with the 9370 and 9590? I see a few comments on the newegg site that the bundled water cooler is too wimpy. But others think its OK?

I love AMD as much as the next guy (check out my sig), but if you're after the performance of an FX-9590 and you're gonna upgrade your board and RAM anyway, and you're kinda worried about power consumption and cooling, why not just get a 3770K or 4770K? If you insist on getting AMD I would think the FX-8350 would be the sensible choice.

Or even the FX-8320 if you're a bit more budget conscious. It is worth pointing out that its turbo core speed only differs by 200 MHz from the FX-8350...

Yeah, I think the FX-8350 looks like the best compromise between bleeding money and a nice upgrade. When I have the cash, I think that will be my path. Thanks all for the comments.

Not only is the FX-8350 cheaper, but the FX-9590 looks like it's nothing more than an overclocked and certified FX=8350. Just get an 8350 and overclock the hell out of it. Many are able to reach 4.7GHz and it'll probably reach 220W TDP just like the 9590.
