Spend my money for me

Postposted on Sun Jan 06, 2008 6:40 pm

I kept trying to put it off, but now I have two dead CRTs on my desk. I need a new LCD. I now have ~$600 to work with. I'm primarily concerned with color reproduction. Widescreen would be nice. 19"-24" is about where I'm looking.

I went to Micro Center today and checked out what they had. I could clearly see a difference between monitors with good color reproduction, i.e. the Samsung 971P, and those that did not. Since I use Photoshop, I really need the better colors. I've also been eying the Dell 2407, but it's just a bit out of reach. Though I'm tempted.

So, have fun spending my money for me. With ~$600, what's the best you can do?

I just did the same thing. The 6-bit TN panels are not the best for graphic work.

Try: http://www.ncixus.com/products/19235/FP241W/BENQ/

Ben Q FP241W 24"

I am very, very pleased with mine.

For $30 you can get their dead zero policy, which I would highly advise getting.

You'll be around $600-620 w/ shipping and the zero-dead-pixel policy.

Here's my post about why I picked the Ben Q over other 24" if you're interested:

I saw that thread... is that review still forthcoming? I'd love to read it!

Yeah, I've been busy with the holidays, but so far I am very pleased.

The first thing I noticed was the industrial-feeling stand that came with it. I had tested a 22" Acer for a day and it had a plastic, lightweight, nonadjustable stand. Then you lift the stand out for the BenQ and it is heavy, clearly contains metal, slides up and down, rotates, angles, etc. You can push the monitor around very easily into new angles.

There is almost no noticeable viewing angle problem. You can stand 10 feet almost completely to the side of the monitor and still see a clear image.

Can I order that in the US?

If I can order that, it seems down to the 2407 and the BenQ. That's a tough one.

I'm also sort of curious if there are any good screens in a smaller size, like 19"-20".
