Monitor black settings

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 225ms that I got at Christmas, and it's having trouble displaying black properly. It's like a washed out black, almost looks like a photo negative. It goes away when I look at my monitor from the side, but is very apparent when viewing straight-on. This is very annoying when trying to watch movies and even looking at pictures.

Is there anything that I can change in my settings to fix this? I've tried messing around with Brightness/Contrast, but nothing has worked. Any help would be awesome.

LCDs can't display a true black, so you're out of luck if you wan't good black levels. You can try to adjust the monitor a litter better by using this calibration page:

Oh my god! aside from the good black levels and amazing brightness, my laptop got raped on that test! stupid TN panel

I have a nice LED backlit screen, but the colors do warp a lot with viewing angle. I have never seen a laptop with a better screen than mine (but many equal these days), and that worries me. Mine did REALLY poorly on viewing angle tests, and even the square flickery box test.

My Apply Studio Display didn't do too extremely bad.

The only test on there that bugs me is the Contrast/Dark Level test. Shades 2-9 appear the same color. When I look from the side, they are all distinguished.

Yeah, I've found that to be a very useful site. It sure shows how crappy your display is anyway. My 2005FPW did pretty good though.
