You should be buying an HDTV before getting a PS3 IMHO

Thinking about people hooking up a PS3 to a SDTV hurts my brain.

But see, a PS3 at $300 isn't anywhere near as big a dent in the motorcycle budget as a $2000 TV. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a new TV. I'd love a motorcycle more.

Seriously, that's an LED backlit LCD that can adjust the backlighting on separate parts of the screen. Which means better contrast and truer blacks.

Ok then. That makes sense. $2k for a dynamically LCD-backlit LCD TV with 120hz. Still not in my price range, but I can understand it. Thanks for clarifying.

ANd yes, compared to teh 1080p 42" Insignia that we got at work. With a little tweaking of colors/brightness, it's actually quite a nice panel.

Most LCDs look fine during the day or in ambient light. The true test of any LCD TV comes when the lights are out playing 2.35:1 content with lots of motion. That's where things like backlight bleeding, banding, lousy blacks, and even blur become apparent.
