lowest price for a HD monitor (from 19" to 23"???)

hi guys

it's time that i change my old 15" CRT to something that can handle HD content

i intend to use it for both my PC and PS3

can anybody suggest me a good monitor that has the lowest price? like around $450 max?

$450 will put you into the 24" and even some 26" monitors, running 1920x1200 resolution. This model looks pretty good, and has an HDMI port to hook up your PS3.

since it has HDMI input, does it output sound thru onboard speakers or do i have to hookup separate speakers? i'd like to avoid that conundrum

oh and since $450 dollars will get me 23" what about a decent 20" monitor? what's the cheapest (but still of good quality) monitor for that range of screen size?

It doesn't take much to beat the crap that gets integrated into monitors.

I'd say go to Best Buy and see what a decent 32" 720p TV will get you. That will give you your audio too.

Well depending on your needs, anything from headphones to a couple of decent speakers to a surround setup would be an improvement. I know "more specific" would be helpful, but in the end "just about anything" means what it says. Monitor integrated speakers have very little to offer.

If it helps (and I think I said this in the other thread ReApEr has), the PS3 can output audio via analog while outputting HDMI video, so you can use the included composite video/RCA audio cable and convert that around as necessary to hook into any 2.1 speakers you please.

I recently tested two 24" models. The Gateway FHD2400 and the HP 2408. IQ out of the box was better on the Gateway than the HP. The Gateway had terrible angles -- slouching in my chair darkened the display noticeably. The HP seemed like it could give a better picture if I spent more time calibrating it. I didn't like its wide bezel either. The stand was interesting but bulky. Honestly I thought it was the recommened LP2465 when I bought it.
