Best 32" HDTV I could buy for around £500?

Postposted on Sun May 11, 2008 11:38 am

Yeah, I feel kinda bad doing this for my second post, but I don't really know any other websites to ask.

I'm just looking for a good quality HDTV (720 or 1080, not bothered), that is also capable of good SD broadcasting for older consoles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

wow, for 500GBP you should be able to buy just about any 32" LCD panel, though I think you'll be stuck with 720p...All the 1080p 32" panels I've seen have been a bit out of your range.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do, I do not do. But what I hate, I do.

Yeah, I probably could, but i'm not really TV savvy at all. I have a CRT 28" Panasonic that's like 6 years old, so i've been out of the loop for rather a long time, and I only just got a job (I'm 17).

So I was looking for specific models that are good. Thanks for your input though. :)

I mean, it could be bigger, I just think ~32" is a good size, but I could go a bit larger if I wanted I expect. ^^

i suggest you look in a local electronics shop and find a reasonable Samsung, and ask the staff to show a SD picture through it to see if it is up to your standard

I've got a Samsung LE32R87BD which is pretty good. I bought it a year ago for £480, so I'd imagine it's available for a lot less now. I haven't tried it with Blu-ray or broadcast HD, but it's perfectly acceptable (as good as any other LCD anyway) with SD TV. Looks great with a Wii on the component input. The main reason I chose that model was because it works well with a PC input, because I'd intended to set up a HTPC. I still haven't got round to that, but I have tried some big screen gaming with it hooked up to a laptop, and it makes a surprisingly effective monitor. The built-in speakers also are reasonable, which can be a real weakness with some flat screens. At the time, I was also looking at the Panasonic range, but they seem to be a lot more expensive for marginally better picture quality. I also have an irrational dislike of Panasonic remote controls which influenced my choice. :D

Look at the Sharp LC-32GP1U (btw, it's 1080P as well as all the other goodies) -- I just bought one a few weeks ago based on the recommendation of xtknight over on the AnandTech LCD monitor thread -- one of the best LCD monitor resources on the internet.
