I have a 37" Olevia that you can get refurbed at Newegg for ~ $600 shipped. I love it. Is it a Pioneer Kuro? Nope, but its nicer than the low end name brands. Olevia seems to be the nicest cheap brand out there.

In my opinion, 1080p on anything less than 42" is useless. That was my train of thought when I bought my Westinghouse at Bestbuy.
It's a 32" 720p LCD with a PC resolution of 1336 by 786. Exactly what model number is... SK-32H240S.
I got it for 600$. The only downside is that moving images (read the PC games I play with it as a monitor) have serious ghosting for the first 15 minutes untill it warms up. Once it is warmed up, though, it performs as well as any high dollar TV out there.

Naturally you want to determine how close you will be to your TV, the space you wish to use it in. 8' is a good distance for me it seems.

I seriously doubt that. It's a decent TV for the money, sure, but let's not go overboard.

In my opinion, 1080p on anything less than 42" is useless.

For Video I would generally agree (though I can see a diff between the 720 and 1080 versions of the screen playing a Blue Ray disc depending on the distance from the screen). However, for doing duty as a computer screen. Sorry but the 1920x1080 res wins hands down compared to 32" screens at 1280x720. Same for gaming.
