The ideal monitor

Sun Nov 02, 2008 5:14 pm

Sup TR,

I've been looking for a nice 24", 1920x1200 monitor but I'm finding it tough. I need a monitor to play games, connect to my PC and 360, as well as provide accurate color reproduction for when I photoshop. It seemed to me that the dell 2008wfp would be perfect but I've seen more bad reviews than good, especially for gaming. Before I came across the dell I was looking at the ASUS MK241H but I can't really find any reviews on it. I wanted to ask you Gerbils what you would recommend for me?

The 2408WFP would be good if you can make sure you get the latest revision. What is your budget? There are some phenomenal pro-photoshop monitors if you can let go of twice as much.

Well I'm only a doodler in photo stuff but I figure my budget is about 700 dollars if the monitor is worth it.

Yes, the Rev A01 (latest) fixes most if not all of the issues with the first one (A00). I suspect that you're more likely to get a Rev A01 direct from Dell than from an etailer. If you care to know, I bought mine directly from Dell for $580 after a 25% off coupon, post tax with free shipping, so try to find those coupons.

This seems like a real nice monitor. H-IPS panel, 24 inch, 1920x1200, S-Video, Composite, Component and HDMI inputs plus usb connections.

The ASUS MK241H is a TN-film panel and should be avoided like the plague.

The hp LP2475w is a nice monitor that should suit you nicely. Its predecessor the 2465 was missing HDCP support, but fortunately the 2475 is free of such issues.

The definitely online resource for consumer lcd monitors is of course:

Wind, Sand and Stars.

Have you looked at the DoubleSight DS-265W?

The NEC LCD2690WUXi is probably pretty close to ideal, if the price doesn't scare you off.
