Anybody know where to find a pair of optical nightvision glasses? I don't mean the red tinted sunglasses. I mean real, 4 or 8x night glasses. They basically increase the aperture of your eyes (4x light is common, 8x isn't too rare, and 12x+ is rare but possible). Anybody?

Lots of surplus / sporting goods / hunting / outdoors places sell nightvision equipment. Just google. The monoculars are a lot cheaper than the binocs though.

Unfortunately, I can't help you do what I did -- buy Warsaw Pact "surplus" off an ex-GDR tank crewman just outside a hole in the Berlin Wall in early 1990. Had to rig the battery box up myself (since I didn't have a T-72 to plug it into) but it works. I think it's less than 4x though.

I have a friend who bought an officer's hat. I think he may have got more use out of his cold war victory spoils / peace dividend than I got out of mine.

Yeah, I'm trying to get battery-free models as gifts (gift pricing, too...)
I'd like 4x or 8x (optical only) light enhancement, with any zoom. Light amplification (optical only!) is preferred to zoom.
