Deep Color

Thu May 21, 2009 4:05 pm

How is it possible to tell which LCD HDTV's are compatible with Deep Color... for instance:

This says that it has HDMI v1.3 ports... but does that guarantee that it can support "Deep Color"?

Usually you go to the real product page, look up the specs, and read up on the manual.

That said, there is currently no consumer material (read: movies) that does deep colour. Therefore the feature is sort of useless for us mere mortals.
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

Just because the HDMI port supports it doesn't mean the LCD panel (or source material, for that matter) does. Have the studios started releasing any Blu-Ray discs in 30-bit (or higher) color yet?

I'm pretty sure that if Deep Color is supported it will be advertised as such, since there will likely be a price premium associated with it. They'll want to let you know that you're getting something (even if it is something that isn't particularly useful today) for your extra $$.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
