Which 22" monitor should I get?

Tue Jun 16, 2009 7:27 pm

I am thinking about upgrading from my 19" 1440x900 monitor to a 22". I have been looking at this one.

Do you know any better monitor with the same price range? Even cheaper?

How about this one

It is $10 more but it has 1080p resolution. If you game or watch a lot of movies on your computer than I recommend getting a 1920x1080. Some may say its to cramped but it is all personal opinion.
To Start Press Any Key'. Where's the ANY key?

You know, boys, a nuclear reactor is a lot like a woman. You just have to read the manual and press the right buttons.

Mondos,

The one you listed is a fine monitor. My friend owns one and has had no problems with it. The black levels (brightness) could be better but they are more than sufficient. It really only has two cons. The monitor is has no HDMI port. Other manufacturers, such as Hanns-G, have the same monitor with an HDMI port. The other con is that it is a 16:10 screen ratio. If you plan on using it with movies and TV then get ready to loose some screen real estate. If your only gaming then you won't notice a difference.

I've looked around and that price is as low as your going to get anytime soon. Tigerdirect and Newegg both have several 22" monitors that go for around $150. Also, the monitor is not actually 22". It's 21.6". Measure it when you get it and you will see what I mean.

I personally went from a 19" widescreen to a 22" widescreen and the difference is HUGE. You wouldn't think that an extra 3" would make such a difference but it's like going from a computer monitor to a full fledged TV. Happy Hunting.

What does 20000:1 (ACM) mean. I mean the "ACM" part. Because that is a huge contrast ratio. :o

I don't watch movies on mine. I pretty much just game and edit videos. I don't need HDMI either. Just DVI.

"Adaptive Contrast Management".

From an Acer press release:

Staying at the forefront of technology, the G24 includes Acer Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM), and is the world’s first LCD monitor supporting up to 50000:1 for outstanding contrast ratio. Acer ACM produces dramatic improvement in gradation and detail, especially for dimmer and brighter scenes, resulting in stunning picture quality. Acer ACM also enables the G24 to use less power and save energy.

Not sure I put much stock in it. I know I never put stock in contrast ratios - there's no governing standard that I'm aware of.
