I'd love to get a U2410, but thats out of my range. Among $300ish monitors what specs should i be for? Any specific monitors?
thanks.

A gaming monitor is a 120 Hz monitor.

What makes you say that?

Probably because when you have VS on it will allow you to get higher FPS. Though I feel this is invalid, what you want in a gaming monitor is really response time. But even that is a little invalid, what you want to concentrate on is just getting a monitor that has the specs you like, and gives you the experience you want. You have obviously already chosen 24"...do you want 16:9 or 16:10? Those are the things to look at, also as a "gaming" monitor you should be looking at 1920x1200, 1920x1080, or something higher. After that I would say you are looking for a non-dynamic color contrast of 1000:1, as well as probably a TN panel for less than $300. Acer, Asus, NEC are among my favorite brands when it comes to monitors. There is a Hanns-G 28" 1920x1200 monitor that is always a little less than the $300 mark if I am not mistaken that might suite your needs well, though the color contrast is 800:1 most people won't notice.

Goodluck! Just make sure to get what you want and not something that is "specifically for gaming!". I actually use a 27" Acer Business Class monitor that I absolutely love. Got it because its 16:9 without sacrificing most vertical space room as the resolution is 2048x1152, and I love gaming on it. Is it made "just for games"? Not at all...but it still suites my purpose and makes me have an enjoyable experience.

As a proud owner of both a 2407WFP-HC and 2408WFP, I'm more than happy saying that Dell's 24" IPS monitors are well worth the money that they ask for. And at $450, they are a steal. I'd highly recommend trying to expand your budget to be able to move to the U2410. It's really not something you'll regret, and you'll easily be using for 5 years.

I just got this for gaming and I'm very happy with it --http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236080 -- and there is a Hanns G 28" that is even cheaper -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254043.

Well, I own the Iiyama mentioned in my sig, and a lot of ppl have named it one of the few that have the lowest response time..

I do like it too, though I'd love to see a DVI input instead of poorly executed HDMI input that is broken out of the box, so I use DVI to VGA cable..

Check the reviews, it must be cheap too..

Based solely on second hand information, I'd suggest the Samsung 2233RZ. 120 HZ (which appears to be more than just a marketing gimmick), 22 inch (a little under) and it runs about $330. Of course don't take my word for it, but TFTCentral uses it as their new reference monitor (they even compare it to the IPS monitors) and if you read through their reviews/basic information, they have an idea of what they are doing.

The review is here (and it contains a nice run down on why 120HZ is more than just for 3D video)
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/samsung_2233rz.htm

The lowest cost is from Dell at $300 (assume another $30 or so for taxes)
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... u=A2910141

This is a normal TFT Film panel (not IPS as with the 2410U) and so input lag and response time appear to be top notch, while colour representation will be no where near the 2410U but from the review, appears to be quite decent. IPS monitors (such as the 2410U) are not the end all, be all of high quality monitors; they are just a preference of many who require/want the higher colour gamut and honestly, the magical, mystical qualities of IPS panels are sometimes exaggerated. If anything, poke around tftcentral.co.uk because they also have guides on the different types of panels (PVA, TFT Film, IPS) and general all around information in regards to monitors.
